# What that special status meant.

Special government status can sound impressive. Ask what that status meant and whether it still applies.

The myth

A special government status shows that epitalon works.

Where the promise meets evidence

The FDA, the US drug agency, gave epitalon help for drug development, not approval; that status ended in 2016.

## What the record actually says

The name for this drug-development help is orphan designation. It is special support for developing a medicine, not FDA approval.

The FDA gave epitalon that status in 2010 for retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease passed down in families.

The record checked on September 28, 2026 says the status was withdrawn or revoked, meaning taken back or cancelled. No approved medicine followed.

The same record does not explain why the status ended.

A development step does not answer whether a treatment helped people. Ask for the human study that answers your particular question.

## Questions to bring to the visit

What is the exact substance being discussed? What human evidence supports the benefit I am asking about? Did the study test the same substance and the same type of treatment?

What is unknown about harm? What other options fit my health concern? If treatment is not offered, what would the next step be?

## Put the goal before the program

Bring the names of your medicines and supplements. Bring the health question you want answered. You can also bring a screenshot of the claim that caught your eye.

Ask for plain words when an answer is unclear. Ask for the source when a claim sounds certain. There is room to leave a conversation with more questions and no purchase.
