Beyond the epitalon menu
Picking a plan is not a visit.
You can start with a health concern. There is no need to pick a treatment before the visit.
The myth
Choosing epitalon from an online menu is enough to count as medical care.
Where the promise meets evidence
A medical board is a state office that records doctors’ licences and any penalties it has imposed on them. In May 2026, a national group of these boards agreed on advice about writing prescriptions. It says a doctor cannot provide proper care by prescribing only from the treatment you pick on a menu.
What getting care can involve
With telehealth, you speak with a doctor through video, phone or an online exchange instead of meeting in one room.
An in-person clinic is another place to bring the same questions. Ask who will review your health history. Ask how to raise your own questions and what happens after the visit.
That guidance also calls for a way for patients to ask their doctor questions after the visit.
A doctor may need a test or an examination in the same room to understand your health problem. The guidance says the doctor must arrange this or refer you to someone who can do so.
This is advice for the state offices that oversee doctors. Check the rules in your own state.
Check permission to treat you
HHS is the US health department. Its guidance says doctors need a licence or other permission to work in the state in which the patient is located during the visit. This was checked on September 26, 2026.
Let the service know where you plan to be at the time of the visit. Ask whether the doctor has permission to treat you there.
A state medical board’s public records show whether a doctor has a licence. They also show discipline imposed by the board, such as limits on the licence or loss of permission to practise.
The board directory below leads to each state’s own record.
Search using the doctor’s name. If the person is not a doctor, ask which licensing board keeps their record.
Keep the product check separate
A doctor’s licence does not change the absence of an approved US epitalon product, as of September 28, 2026.
Use the visit to ask about your health concern, the evidence and other options. A licence check is a start to that conversation.
